We have curated a list of companies that are exemplary in ESG reporting. Companies on this list include a variety of ESG disclosures in 10-K filings, proxy statements, and/or voluntary reports. We include links to these companies’ most recent filings and reports as of March 2023. These companies are presented by industry.

Agriculture – Archer Daniels Midland Company

Archer-Daniels-Midland, more commonly known as ADM, connects crops to markets on six continents. ADM made extensive ESG disclosures in its 2022 10-k as well as its 2021 Corporate Sustainability Report. ADM aligned its report with three key sustainability reporting standards: the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards, the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), and the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB). Air Transport – Boeing

Boeing develops, manufactures and services commercial airplanes, defense products and space systems. Boeing included ESG expectations in its risk factors disclosure of its 2022 10-k. Boeing also published a sustainability report referencing GRI, SASB, and TCFD standards as well as the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals.

Apparel and Footwear – Under Armour

Under Armour is an athlete-first brand, creating state-of-the-art products engineered to make competitors better. Under Armour included a sustainability footnote in its 2021 10-k and more detailed disclosures in its 2021 Sustainability Impact Report. This report is aligned with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and Sustainable Accounting Standard Board (SASB) industry standards. Under Armour’s sustainability website can be found here.

Asset Management – Charles Schwab

Charles Schwab is a full-service wealth management leader. Charles Schwab uses Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and Sustainable Accounting Standard Board (SASB) industry standards in its ESG report.

Automotive – Ford

Ford designs, manufactures, markets and services a full line of cars, trucks, sport utility vehicles and electrified vehicles. Ford uses standards from GRI, SASB, UN Global Compact, and UN Sustainable Development Goals to guide its ESG report. Ford also answers questions from the Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index survey as well. You can access Ford’s report here and information about its use of different standards here. Ford also maintains a website about its corporate governance and policies.

Banking – Goldman Sachs

Goldman Sachs is a leading global investment banking, securities and investment management firm. Goldman Sachs included ESG activities in its risk factors disclosure of its 2022 10-k. The company also published a sustainability report, including references to SASB standards. Other reports from Goldman Sachs can be found here.

Chemical Manufacturing – Dow Chemical

Dow is a producer and supplier of raw materials for products in a wide variety of industries, including appliance, automotive, agricultural, chemical processing, electronics, oil and gas, and processed foods. Dow discloses its sustainability strategy in its 2020 10-k. Dow also published an ESG report with references to several ESG standards including GRI, SASB, and World Economic Forum.

Electronics – Dell Technologies

Dell engages in the sales of personal computers, network servers, data storage solutions, and software. The company included an extensive ESG disclosure in its fiscal year 2022 10-k. Dell published its ESG report with references to GRI, SASB, Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), and other standards.

Insurance – Allstate

Allstate is a leading insurance provider. Allstate included ESG perception in the risk factors disclosure of its 2022 10-k. Allstate included more extensive ESG disclosures in its 2022 proxy statement. Allstate also published a sustainability report in 2021 that follows the GRI: Core option as its reporting structure. The company also references other standards including SASB, TCFD, and CDP.

Manufacturing – Honeywell

Honeywell invents and manufactures technologies to address tough challenges such as safety, security, and energy. A variety of Honeywell’s products are designed to help customers meet their sustainability goals, as disclosed in its 2022 10-k. Honeywell’s 2022 ESG report included disclosures aligned with the SASB framework The company also referenced TCFD disclosures in its report.

Oil and Gas – ConocoPhillips

ConocoPhillips (“Conoco”) explores for, develops, and produces crude oil and natural gas globally. ESG is mentioned several times in its 2022 10-k. Conoco references American Exploration and Production Council (AXPC) metrics in its 2021 sustainability report. Conoco has also issued other reports available on its website.

Pharmaceuticals – Merck

Merck plays an important role in discovering and developing innovative medicines and vaccines to treat and prevent infectious diseases. Merck included a disclosure about its environmental sustainability strategy in its 2022 10-k. Merck included GRI and SASB disclosures in its 2021/2022 ESG report.

Retail – Walmart

Walmart is a retailer that provides the convenience of one-stop shopping. The company included ESG priorities in its fiscal year 2022 10-k. Walmart also has an extensive ESG website. Walmart’s 2022 ESG report is guided by frameworks including GRI, SASB, TCFD, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Technology – Zoom

Zoom is a communications platform that allows users to connect with video, audio, phone, and chat. Zoom considered investor expectations of the company’s ESG efforts as a risk factor in its fiscal year 2023 10-k. Zoom references the SASB index in its fiscal year 2022 ESG report.

Telecommunications – Verizon

Verizon offers voice, data and video services and solutions on its networks and platforms. Verizon did not include much about ESG in its 2022 10-k, but did point readers to its sustainability website. Verizon refers to SASB, United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and GRI standards in its 2021 ESG report.
